Seriously. Stop that shit.
I can’t be the only Opponaut who doesn’t like black wheels.

i think it looks good....

Black wheels are great. Blacked out tail lights? Not so much.

Yep, you’re the only one.

I think it only works on some cars and only certain colours. It doesn’t really work with dark grey but it would look nice if this car was say white or red.

I prefer black to just plain alloy, but I’d rather have gunmetal or bronze.

Steelies don’t look good in too many colors, let’s be honest.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Depends on the car and its color.

Murdered out is played out but black wheels on a car where it contrasts nicely with the paint colour?, hells yes.
![]() 08/19/2015 at 21:41 |

Im with you. Rarely do black wheels look good imo. Murdered out was played out in 2006.

I’ve voiced this opinion before. My rule is that the wheels should always be a lighter grey than the tires.
![]() 08/19/2015 at 21:42 |

You have probably the best steelies in the world. They go so well with your wagon.
![]() 08/19/2015 at 21:42 |

Black wheels are alright. White on the other hand is only acceptable when the car is a championship white Honda.

I like black wheels. I just don’t tend to like stocker wheels that have been plasti-dipped. Esp non BBS BMW wheels. I also hate the non-mesh Porsche wheels in any color but silver.
While the CTS-V look hella-good with black wheels, I prefer the gunmetal versions. I think the black-wheel thing is waning and will end up on the pile with other fads like body-color-everything and fake exhaust tips.

Brake dust, dude. That’s why black wheels are nice. I want black wheels.
![]() 08/19/2015 at 21:44 |

My rule is match exterior trim. Gloss black trim to gloss black wheels. Exceptions are chrome plastic with machined wheels, and no trim with gunmetal wheels. If you have really good , high end bright work then you can pull off chrome wheels.

IMO, for ligher colors it can work, white or silver with black wheels is okay, most other colors it’s a no-go.

Black wheels? I saw the picture and thought you were upset about people buying Mustangs...

White cars should have white wheels. Blue cars should have gold wheels.

Wait a second... a Mustang with black wheels and tinted tail lights? I’ve seen this before. I liked it. But only this one.
![]() 08/19/2015 at 21:54 |

Okay technically the wheels aren’t “black”, but they’re a shade-ish. They’re lighter than the tires which, I think, adds a nice contrast.
![]() 08/19/2015 at 21:57 |

Yes! I don’t care how well you think you did it or how much you paid. It looks cheap as hell and like you spray painted your wheels in the backyard.

I’m glad I picked them up. The new police cars get the older steelies again:
Also, I’m not sure whether I really will or not, but I’m tempted to buy two more and send them to a company in Michigan that widens wheels. I’m thinking about dishing them a little, but only if it can be ground down and brushed to look seamless. I’d want them to be pushed to about 9 inches wide, preferably sending 1 inch under the car, and the other half inch out rather than using a spacer. But I also need to find out if a 9 inch wheel can tuck into the car, and then I need to find a tire I can stick onto it, and I’ll need to make sure it wont hit the fender if I hit a bump really hard.
But I’m not sure yet. The wheels are cheap, but stretching them is not, and I’d rather try and find a local place that’s up to the challenge first. Shipping steel wheels isn’t cheap either, they’re not exactly the lightest things you’ve ever picked up.

You planning on just stretching the rears or the fronts as well? It would look even meaner with more meat on the rear tires. What width are you running right now?
I haven’t seen your wagon in person, unfortunately, but from what I’ve seen in pictures, the wheels don’t look too far in the wheel wells.

Sorry dude...gonna have to disagree with you here. Now on that particular Mustang...it’s just meh. But on this 991 GTS...yummy!

I’m currently running the stock size, 225/60R18 on all four corners. i’d like to move up to something like a 245-255 in the rear, and possibly just fit a 235/55R18 to the stock sized wheels up front. It’ll throw the speedo off a little bit, but that’s just insignificant to be honest, nothing I could care less about. Just adding a slight dish to the rear wheels will make the look incredible. I’d want to do it to a spare set of wheels as well so I can 1) have a full sized spare and 2) not worry about having problems if it turns out to be more of a track wheel than a street wheel.
My concern with widening the fronts would be lock to lock clearance, as she is lowered now. The wheels are not fully tucked underneath the fenders, but a bump while turning if I go too wide will hit the fenders, and I absolutely don’t want that.
I mean, the setup is not 100% unique, but I can tell you I’ve only even heard of one other Magnum running the same coilovers. They bored their motor to a 391, I’m looking to just yank the 5.7 in favor of a 426 with some velocity stacks (hidden, of course). Right now I’m just unsure about the exhaust, but it will still be a few more months before I do anything to that. Need to do the U joints and the rear first. Then I need to source parts for the manual swap and when I have the most important parts, they’ll slowly get installed little by little leading up to the motor/trans swap. For example, I’ll swap in a better brake booster and possibly move the ABS module next to the booster at the same time I install the Challenger pedal box with a 3rd pedal, but just take off the clutch pedal and cover the fittings to make sure it fits.
It’s a good time to be doing this kind of swap because cars are still easy to find being parted out, and factory parts are still being made and are still not too expensive. People are also buying used ones and modifying them leaving me with an abundance of factory parts for pretty cheap, you just have to search around and keep an eye out.

I’m surprised the wheels are wider than that but being steelies its expected. Moving to 255 in the rear and 235 in the front would be great as long as you don’t rub on tight turns haha
It sounds like you have some badass plans for your wagon. Looking forward to seeing some of this happen!

I’m with you, friend. I can’t understand why people pay all that money for wheels that look like a tire. Plus, they often make the tires look grey-ish.
But...I’m not a huge fan of super-shiny chrome either. Maybe I’m too vanilla, but IMO the best wheel finish is powdered chrome.

This. It just leaves a big void under the wheel wells.
![]() 08/19/2015 at 22:52 |

I respectfully disagree.
![]() 08/19/2015 at 22:54 |

Yeah, the only major downside is that I want to change the parking brakes from the ridiculous drum brake getup going on inside the rotor to a dedicated little caliper because it will be changing from a parking brake to a hand brake as well. Setting that up in the center console will be one of the biggest challenges. I’ll have to take some good long looks at manual Challengers and how the center consoles are done. May have to just swap the whole center console/arm rest assembly.

The polished lip does a lot for me on those. The rest of the car, not so much.

I generally don’t, but sometimes it works:

Yeah you’re the only one. That’s a sexy ass color combo. It’s poor plasti dip jobs that are stupid

I like black wheels, but do not like blacked out lights or trim.
![]() 08/19/2015 at 23:18 |

What if they came black from the factory. Saying all black wheels look spray painted is the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard.
![]() 08/19/2015 at 23:21 |

It really depends on where it’s used.
This is the sex
![]() 08/19/2015 at 23:25 |

There are so many black wheels that have been spray painted around here, and the trend started long before it was ever a factory option. When something is black it isn’t easy to see and therefore hard to see the quality of work.
![]() 08/19/2015 at 23:41 |

I beg to differ. Black finishes show imperfections infinitely better than most finishes. Paint swirls, bubbles, corrosion, all that stuff will show up quicker on a black finish than most other colours. Even brake dust shows up horribly.
![]() 08/19/2015 at 23:51 |

Sure, if you’re looking from less than 10 feet away. Most people are not.

I’d say white is the worst colour when it comes to craftsmanship. A white finish can hide a whole lot of imperfections. :/

black wheels are fine , only if they’re steel.

I tried to post this last night but I mentioned it in another comment on this thread. It looks like a big void under the wheel well when the tires and wheels are just black. I think I recall a Ferrari designer on a History channel show talking about how he would never design a car with black wheels because of the void.
A polished rim on a black wheel, though, is yummy.
![]() 08/20/2015 at 15:46 |

With the polished lip I like it. But plain black looks like a huge void under the wheel well.
![]() 08/20/2015 at 15:54 |

Put some chrome lug nuts on it and it’d be alright.
![]() 08/20/2015 at 16:12 |

I’ve since put the factory dog dish caps on it, it does look better with them.
![]() 08/20/2015 at 18:53 |

Yeah, I think that’s the key. I like black with a polished lip, but all black just looks weird. Just too much black with the tires and the shadow in the wheel well.
